I was just reading an article about racism in which the author made liberal use of the abbreviation "POC" and, yeah. It took me a full three quarters of a page to realize she *was not* talking about PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN.

Oy.

But at least I still have my looks to fall back on, right? RIGHT? *weeps piteously as the crickets start chirping*

I always abbreviated it as POTC, but I feel your pain. It's almost impossible for me to think of "Lord of the Rings," instead, it's always LOTR in my head.

Of course it is! Abbreviations are incredibly useful--very economical and so forth...except for when they're not. *facepalm*
