I recommend you pick the weirdest lyric from any song by the relevant group! Loads of useful places on the web will provide you with lyrics, and if there is some kind of loving relationship in the story, finding something relevant is pretty much a sure thing!
Good luck. I'm trying to figure out a title for mine, too.
Yes! When in doubt, go for song lyrics! It's a great strategy, especially because most lyrics tend to sound way deeper and more meaningful than they really are when they're taken out of context. :)
I ended up settling for something a little more twee than I wanted, but since it fulfilled my ONLY criteria (i.e., it's made up of real, English words and it makes sense, mostly), I'm happy.
Can you help me with a tiny vocabulary query? I've used 'carrier bag' and both my betas flagged it as too British. If a person is carrying a bag full of takeout food, what would you call the bag?
The actual bag? It's funny - It's just now occurring to me that there's really no designated term for the bag itself! Instead, you mostly just hear people using "take-out" as kind of a catch-all noun: "do you feel like having take-out for dinner?"/"Don't bother cooking! I'll just bring home some take-out!"
"Take-out bag" or "bag of take-out" both work. At the very least, neither hits the ear too oddly.
Obviously you've turned in your story by now, and equally obviously I really enjoyed it. But I'm posting here because I'm hoping that you'll get my question this way -- I am now trying to find your previous popslash fics, and am not having any luck. AO3 let me down, and I'm not coming up with anything by playing with your LJ tags. Do you have them on a separate website somewhere?
Gah! Just you asking about this is, like, one of the biggest compliments I can imagine...and it really *should* be the final kick in the pants I need to get my stuff posted good and proper, shouldn't it? :)
I *do* have an AO3 account, which I mostly just use for stalking and kudos-ing far better writers. The sad truth is, I don't really have too many completed fics to my name; I've taken part in MtYG for the last few years, and I've got a few very short ficlets floating around in various places, but...there really isn't much else. (Unless you count my WIP folder! It's about as thick as an old time-y encyclopedia and is basically a literary patchwork quilt of crazy! I'd send it to you...but I don't hate you. I'm not sure I hate *anyone* that much :)
I'm not sure why I haven't been more prolific, to be honest. It's not for lack of ideas! I guess I'm just too self-conscious; I'll write a few thousand words of something, convince myself it's crap, and then bury it. Which explains the WIP folder. This might just be the year, though! There are a couple of specific WIPs (Chris and JC, 'Little House on the Prairie'-fied!) that I'd definitely like to work on a bit more!
(Sorry for the late reply! Apparently LJ doesn't think I deserve comment notifications anymore.)
